My family comes from “Kempen“, Campania in medieval latin, the fields between Scheldt and Meuse. A monk came up with that name. Before, the area was called after the Germanic tribe that lived there, the Texuandri (taxandria/toxandrie), perhaps after the Taxus tree used to make fine bows.
